behind the music
She was introduced to music at an early age listening to the pulsating rhythms of her Father’s Belizean
culture emanating through a soulful and seductive bass guitar – layering the reggae, jazz and R&B in
their basement apartment on the North Side of Chicago. At the age of 14, Dejah was discovered in a
Baptist Church in Evanston, Illinois. Soon after, her performance during a local talent show led her to
being signed by the Undynable record label. Her debut single
“Crazy” charted at number 26 on Billboard’s top 100 R&B singles.
As a young adult, Dejah received the call of her life to audition for the touring company of “The Lion King.”
Dejah was well on her way to becoming an unmistakable talent securing the lead cover role as “Nala.”
She toured with production companies in Los Angeles, New York and Las Vegas.
As a sought after background vocalist, Dejah fuses her diverse experience of singing with the likes of
Trumpeter Christ Botti, Michael Bolton, Smokey Robinson and the legendary Stevie Wonder as her colorful canvas.
Her credits also include world tours with Stevie Wonder, Michael Bolton, Jennifer Hudson, Kelis, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs
and performing for the President and Mrs. Obama at the White House and backing renowned artists
Justin Timberlake, Jamie Foxx, Ne-Yo, Al Green, Chaka Kahn, Faith Hill, Mariah Carey, Jessica Simpson,
Clint Black and others during live telecasts for the Grammy’s, American Idol, Home for the Holidays and An
Evening with the Stars.
With an indomitable spirit, Dejah’s ability to exemplify poise and grace in an ever-changing music
business has never changed her desire to share her gratitude and wealth of knowledge of her craft.
Remaining true to her roots, she has opened her Willow Song, a burgeoning music and entertainment company
offering music instruction, education and training for college and middle school students.
